What is impulse coaster?

An Impulse coaster, also known as a Shuttle coaster, is a type of roller coaster that operates on a linear motor technology. It is called "impulse" because it uses electromagnetic forces to launch the trains forward and backward. The coaster uses a special launch system that propels the train from a standing position to high speed in a matter of seconds, requiring less space than a traditional roller coaster.

The ride consists of a track that is usually only one or two straight sections, and a vertical tower at each end. The train is launched from one tower to the other and then back again, experiencing a series of twists and turns before returning to the station.

Impulse coasters typically do not have a traditional lift hill, and the train is launched using a series of powerful electromagnets. Because of this, riders experience a unique sensation of being thrust forward with extreme speed. The ride can also provide a feeling of weightlessness or "airtime" as the train launches over the top of each tower.

Popular attractions built with the Impulse coaster technology include Wicked Twister at Cedar Point in Ohio, Superman: Ultimate Escape at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and Steel Venom at Valleyfair in Minnesota.
